History of our Church
Pomona Baptist Church began as a mission in 1972 which was sponsored by First Baptist Church, of Dickson,TN. Services were held in a rented building known as "The Barn" on Highway 46.
Reverend Harold Gregory was the first Pastor. He began with  a revival on May 7, 1972. The first regular service was held on May 14,1972.

On December 4, 1972, Reverend Cecil Owen became the Pastor. He was voted to serve on the Mission Council with Mr.James Adams.Brother Owen resigned February 5,1973. Reverend Floyd Simpson served as Interim Pastor.

On August 5, 1973 Reverend J.D. Cathey Jr. was called to be the Pastor. He assumed duties on that first Sunday of September of 1973.

It was realized and became evident it was necessary for the mission to acquire a new location. As a result of this realization a decision was initiated in October 1973 to form a building fund. Results of this decision became reality with the groundbreaking services being held on November 16, 1974.

Construction began on the new church building in February of 1975. Upon completion, the church was ready for its dedication on June 22, 1975.

May 16, 1976 the mission became a "Constituted Church." During the time as a mission the church was affiliated with the Nashville Baptist Association, later to be accepted as a member in the Judson Baptist Association. On April 8, 1998 the church voted to be associated with the Truett Association. Pomona Baptist continues in this present day to be active in this association.

Groundbreaking for a parsonage took place on July 26, 1980. Completion was final for parsonage on September of 1980. The parsonage has since been sold.

In February 1983 a goal was set in motion for pay off of all the church debts. This goal was to be achieved by the first of September.  The goal was met and on September 25, 1983 during the Homecoming Celebration, the notes were burned.

On April 15, 1990 , ground breaking took place for a Christian Life Center. It was dedicated to the Lord 's work on September 30, 1992.

From March 1991 through October 1992 Pomona Baptist Church operated a Daycare Program for the people of the community. Noah's Ark Daycare operated from April 1996 until November 2000. The daycare is closed at the present time.

After serving as Pastor for 19 years, Brother Cathey's pastorate ended in August 1992.

Reverend Jerry Reynolds served as Interim Pastor from August 1992 until November 30, 1992.

December 1992 Reverend Donnie Craig became the Pastor of Pomona Baptist Church. He served through December 24, 2000.

In January 2001, Reverend B. Carter Elmore from Texas began as Pastor. He is Pomona Baptist Church's residing Pastor at the present time.

There have been many changes along the years with  many blessings at our church. Our prayer is that we have touched our community and our world. Our desire is to continue to serve the Lord in this community.

 Doctrinal Statement

The Holy Scriptures
We believe the Holy Scriptures to be the verbally inspired word of God, authoritative, infallible and God breathed.
2Timothy 3:16,17; 2Peter 1:20; Matthew 5:18

The God Head
We believe in one Triune God, existing in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, eternal in being, identical in essence, equal in power and glory and having the same attributes and perfection
.
Deuteronomy 6:14; 2 Corinthians 13:14

The Total Depravity of Man
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, became alienated from God, and is totally unable to regain his former position.
Genesis 1:26, & 3:1-24, Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:12 Romans 3:23

The Person and Work of Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man through his precious blood. We believe that He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, dying for our sins and the sins of the world.
1John 1:1,14,18; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24-26; Romans 4:25, 1Corinthians 15:3,4

We believe that the third day He arose, bodily, literally.
1Corinthians 15:20; Luke 24:39

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, bodily flesh and bone ascended into Heaven, exalted at the right hand of God, the Father, as His people's High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of intercession and advocacy.
Hebrews 1:3; 12:2, 3:1, 7:23-25, 9:24, 1John 2:1,2

The Personality of the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He also in the present age regenerates believers in Christ, baptizes them into the church, the body of Christ, indwells them permanently, seals them unto the day of redemption, bestows spiritual gifts upon on each one.
2Corinthians 13:14; Matthew 3:16,17; John 16:8; 1Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13 & 4:30 1Corinthians 12:11

Salvation
We believe that salvation is a gift of God in grace 100% and is received by man through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ whose precious blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.
Ephesians 2:8,9; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; Romans 6:23; Titus 3:5; Matthew 26:28

Security of the Believer
We believe that all born again believers are kept secure in Christ in Time and Eternity.
Romans 8:1, 8:29, 30, 38,39; John 10: 27-30

The Church
We believe that the church, the body of Christ both local (visible) and universal (invisible) is a spiritual organism made up of all born again persons of this church age, irrespective of their affiliation with Christian organizations.
Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5: 25-27; 1Corinthians 12:12,13

The Second Coming of Christ
We believe in the personal imminent, literal, coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for his own, the church, and His subsequent premillennial return to earth to set up His Kingdom.
1Thessalonians 1:9,10; 4:13-18; Zechariah 24:11; Revelation 20:6

The Eternal State
We believe that the souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation do at death immediately pass into His presence. There to remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection of the body at His coming for the church, when soul and body, reunited, shall be associated with Him forever in glory. The souls of unbelievers remain after death in conscious misery until the final judgment of the great white throne, at the close of the millenium. When soul and body, reunited, shall be cast into the lake of fire, not to be annihilated, but to be punished with everlasting separation from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.
Luke 23:43; 2Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23, 2Thessalonians1: 7-9;
Revelation 20:11-15

The Responsibility of Believers
We believe that all believers should seek to walk in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Lord and Savior.
Romans 12:1,2; Galatians 5:16,25; 2Corinthians 6:14, 7:1

We believe that it is the obligation of every believer to witness by life and by word to the truths of Holy Scripture and to seek to proclaim the gospel to all the world.
Acts 1:8

We believe that it is the responsibility of all believers to remember the work of the Lord in prayer and to support it with their tithes and offerings.
1Corinthians 16:2

Church Ordinances
We believe that the Lord Jesus instituted the ordinance of baptism and the Lord's Supper to be observed by all believers until His return.
Matthew 28:19,20; 1Corinthians 11:23-26; 1:14-17

The Personality of Satan
We believe in the personality of Satan who is the open and declared enemy of God and man.
Job 1:6,7; Matthew 4: 2-11, Isiah 14:2-17; Galatians 1:7,8

The Blessed Hope
We believe that the next great event in the fulfillment of prophecy will be the coming of the Lord Jesus in the air to receive to Himself the dead in Christ and believers who are alive at His coming, otherwise known as the Rapture and translation of the church.
1Corinthians 15:51-57; 1Thessalonians 4:13 -18; Titus 2:11-14

The Tribulation
We believe that the rapture of the church will be followed by the fulfillment of Israel's seventieth week, the latter half of which is the time of Jacob's trouble, the great tribulation.
Daniel 9:27; Jeremiah 30:7; Matthew 24:15-21; Revelation 6: 1-19,21

The Second Coming of Christ
We believe that the great tribulation will be climaxed by the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth to set up His Kingdom.
Zechariah 14:4-11; Matthew 24:5-25,46; 2Thessalonians 1:7-10; Revelation 20:6

Spiritual Gifts
We find in the word of God that certain spiritual gifts were permanent and others were temporary. Four places are these gifts listed:
Ephesians 4:11; Romans 12: 6-8; 1Corinthians 12:8-10, 28-30

Permanent Gifts include: Pastor, Evangelist, Exhortations, Teacher, Government, Helps (assistance to others), Ministering, and Word of Knowledge.
